Optical illusions: 3D sidwealk chalk drawings

Posted in General on June 30th, 2009 by Deems

I’ve shared with you some great three-dimensional artwork by Tracy Lee Stum and John Pugh. If you enjoyed those check out a great gallery on the Mighty Optical Illusions website for some more great chalk artwork – amazing how a little perspective in a drawing makes it almost come alive. This last picture I’ve added to this post was done by an artist by the name of Kurt Wenner. Check out his gallery on his portfolio site to see some more great works by him.

POTD: Tracy Lee Stum – Madonnari

Posted in General on April 9th, 2009 by Deems

A madonnari, or street artist, is someone who makes pictures of the Madonna from Christian art. These images were the original style of drawing for street painters, thus the title. An artist can be referred to as a madonnaro or madonnara.

This style of painting is what makes Tracy Lee Stum’s peers, and pedestrians passing by, consider her one of the most talented painters today.

She creates modern-day masterpieces using different coloured chalk on sidewalks in an very realising 3-dimensional way.

She currently holds a Guinness World Record for the largest street painting by an individual, which was set in 2006 for the DVD release of ‘The Da Vinci Code’.

Below is a small sample of her work – visit her website for more info and photos.
